Guest speaker:
Dr. Oliva Primera-Pedrozo Dr. Oliva Primera-Pedrozo is an Infrared and Raman Spectroscopic Scientist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) within the Separations & Analysis Team within the Chemical Physics and Analysis group as part of the Physical Sciences Division (PSD). Her work at PNNL focuses on spectroscopic based techniques for several applications including detection, identification, and data analysis of different chemicals in solid, liquid, and gas phases. She was born in Colombia and since I was in high school, she decided to be a scientist! She is first generation in her family. She is STEM Ambassador at PNNL. She had worked as a mentor for hs students, taught as a faculty (She was teaching in the past in Puerto Rico), mentored univ student groups, and many other things. Dr. Primera also is one of the key people on to process liquid-phase data for high quality reference spectral libraries. Currently, she is a key contributor in the use Raman spectrometers to identify hazardous materials, illicit drugs, and suspicious powders that could potentially be a biothreat agent. |
